SAP Payment capabilities across Europe

In the last 15 years I’ve had the opportunity to work with customers in the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Slovenia. Next to that I’ve been involved in projects and opportunities in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Croatia, Serbia, Slovakija, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium - and I probably missed a few :). I’ve seen quite a bit of the European Payment Landscape by now. But, it is rapidly changing. New capabilities, new providers, new timings. It is hard to keep up!

Payment discussions often start quite simply: What type of payment can we offer to make the customer journey for payments the most pleasant? But once you get into the details, it becomes local very quickly. SEPA Direct Debit is familiar to most of most of us, but other Direct Debit like payment methods like AvtaleGiro, Autogiro and Betalingsservice all have their own way of working. And then you also have instant payments, cards, digital wallets, pay by link and collective payments. And customers want to be able to choose. So, the question: “What payment method are we going to use in SAP?” is really only one part of the picture.

As the market has been changing rapidly, SAP and SAP Fioneer have been moving quickly in this area as well. I’ve therefore put together a list of SAP payment capabilities, with the relevant payment methods grouped under each capability. The overview covers FI-AP, FI-AR, FI-CA and the industry solutions. It also points out where you need to look a bit closer at the bank or the payment provider.

Is the list 100% complete? I cannot guarantee that. Payment products keep changing and, especially with local payment methods.

The capabilities based on the latest SAP Feature pack for the S/4HANA Cloud Private edition found here. This means that your capabilities may differ to this list. If you want to know exactly what you could offer your customer, then please get in touchI
